HISTORY OF LANE RANCH
Long before it was a neighborhood, this was working ground. The Olson Ranch held it first. It passed to the Lane family, whose Box L sheep operation ran the length of the Wood River Valley and up into Elkhorn Gulch, and the name stayed with the land after the sheep had gone.
Lane Ranch No. 1 was platted in July 1979, and the amended plat followed a year later, recorded in Blaine County as Instrument 215416 across 61.22 acres. CASCEA Associates laid out the 110 residential lots. The ranch left its shape behind: the ponds and streams that once watered livestock still trace the lot lines today.
Sun Valley annexed the property in 1986 under an agreement that kept building south of Elkhorn Road and left the 166 acres to the north as open space. Three years later the owners incorporated as Lane Ranch Association, Inc.
